Fake email sites ranked by Alexa, 2017–2023

·

⚠️
This page is a closed record, not current data. It is built on the Alexa ranking, which Amazon shut down on 1 May 2022. Collection here stopped on 7 February 2023 and will not resume. Every number below is frozen at the day it was measured — read it as history, and not as advice about which service to use today.

For five years this page tracked where disposable-mail services sat in the Alexa ranking and republished the standings every couple of days. The ranking is gone, so the tracking is over. What survives is the record itself: 23 services, 928 measurements, from 21 November 2017 to 7 February 2023 — roughly one reading every other day for 1,904 days.

That record is worth keeping, because it can no longer be reconstructed. The service that produced these numbers no longer exists, and nothing that replaced it goes back and re-publishes what it measured in 2018. So this is now an archive page, and it is written as one.

How the field moved

Alexa rank of six fake-email services, November 2017 to February 2023A reversed logarithmic scale: rank 1,000 at the top, 200,000 at the bottom, so a line that climbs means the service was gaining visitors. Alexa rank, monthly. The scale is reversed and logarithmic: higher on the chart means a better rank, and the same vertical distance always means the same proportional change. Six services are picked out because each one moved differently; the remaining seventeen are drawn in grey behind them, and each gets its own panel below.

Four things are visible in that picture, and none of them were obvious while the collection was running:

Every service tracked

One panel per domain, all on the same axes, so the panels can be compared with each other rather than only read one at a time. A flat line means the service held its position; the shaded band on the right marks the stretch after Alexa was switched off.

Same scale in every panel: rank 1,000 at the top, 200,000 at the bottom. The figure under each panel is the change between that service's first and last measurement — ▲ means it climbed, ▼ means it fell. Gaps in a line are months with no measurement, not zeroes.

“Best” is the highest position a service ever reached in this record; “Final rank” is where it stood at the last measurement, on 7 February 2023. “Change” compares that last measurement with the service's own first one, so for the 11 services that joined after 2017 it covers less than the full five years. A lower number is a better rank throughout: ▲ means the service climbed.

Where these numbers came from

The list was never a ranking of every disposable-mail site. It was a ranking of the ones that passed a cut-off: a service entered the page when its Alexa rank was better than 200,000 and dropped off the page when it fell past that line. That is why the chart's bottom edge is exactly 200,000, and why some lines stop and start again — tempmail.net, for instance, crossed the line in both directions and only appears in 23 of the 64 months.

The cut-off has been kept exactly as it was. Removing it now would produce a longer table than the page ever showed, which would make the archive a worse record of itself, not a better one.

ℹ️
One caveat about the last nine months. Alexa was retired on 1 May 2022, but measurements here continue to February 2023 — so whatever the collector was reading after that date, it was no longer Alexa. Those readings are kept rather than deleted, because they were genuinely recorded and they are consistent with what came before; but they are marked on every chart with a shaded band, and they should not be attributed to Alexa. Where the two disagree, trust the part before the band.

If you came here for a working address

A five-year-old popularity ranking is a poor way to choose one — half of these services have changed hands, changed domains or stopped since the last measurement. The generator on the front page works now, which is the only property that actually matters.

If you would rather not depend on a shared domain at all, attaching one of your own takes a single MX record, and you can check that it took effect straight away.
